Chapter Fourteen

Terri stepped to the stage, feeling the happiness rush her body. She then watched as the people crowded around her. When the announcer gave her the award, Terri held it in her hands, happiness rushing through her body. She looked at everyone, smiling in joy.

"Thanks, everyone. I'm glad to be here today. I've worked hard to get here, and I thank Lauren for the assistance. Without her, I probably wouldn't be here today. She's changed me for the better, and I'm happier than ever," Terri started.

The crowd roared with happiness, and as Terri walked down the steps, Lauren followed her. Terri felt a strange urge in her body, one that screamed she wanted to hold her hand.

Terri extended her hand forward, grasping Lauren’s own, squeezing it. Lauren held it as well, and when they got off the stage, heading back to the booth, Terri looked up. Neil was there, and when he looked at her, he grinned.

"Wow, I'm surprised you did it,” he told her.

"I did. Now, go away. You know the deal,” Terri said.

"I do. So, is she your girlfriend?”

Terri paused, looking at Lauren. "We’re still working things out,” Terri said.

"I see. Wonder if she'll last this time—unlike Gina. Remember that one?" he laughed, and Terri looked at him with an annoyed glance. "That's in the past. This is now," Terri said.

"I’m sure your new little friend would love to hear about your ex. How about that,” he said to her.

Terri looked at Lauren, who was a bit confused.

"Stay out of this. Now I told you, we had a deal. You stay out of the business, and we won't have issues," Terri told him.

"I know, I know. But, you’re going to pay for this eventually, one way or another,” he said to her.

She looked at him, and then at Lauren, who was fidgeting about. All of this discomforted Lauren, and Terri didn't blame her.

"Fuck off. Now, get out of the business before I have to force you out.”

"I will. But I'm sure hiding secrets isn't a good thing. Gina was a part of your past with me. I can still see it in your eyes. You're not fully over her. You're afraid of commitment," he said.

Lauren looked at Terri, and Terri could see the fire in her eyes.

"Leave her alone,” Terri said to Neil.

"Or else what? I will leave her alone sweetie. I'm just telling you the truth. Terri has a rough past here, and I'm sure little old you won't want to hear about that," Terri said.

"That’s enough Neil,” she snapped.

"Fine, I'll leave you be, but don’t say I didn’t warn you,” he said.

He sauntered off, and Terri stood there, anger coursing through her body. He did that on purpose, and he could see the look in her eyes.

Fear. That was what Lauren was feeling. It was complete and utter fear, and Terri hated this.

"What?” she asked Lauren.

"Nothing. I wanted to talk to you about what just happened back there," Lauren said.

"We can talk about it later,” Terri said.
